The experience and credentials you can trust
Debi Rene Weiss, LAc., Dipl.Ac., R.N., MaOM
Upon graduation from Anoka-Ramsey Community College, Debi began her medical career in 1975 specializing in psychiatric nursing at Metropolitan Medical Center, Minneapolis. It was also during this time that the nation was learning of many alternative treatments including acupuncture, in part due to President Nixon's historic trip to China. Always interested in mind-body medicine, Debi followed closely the work of Bernie Segal, Larry Dossey, Rudolph Ballintine, Jeffrey Bland and other pioneers in the medical field.
In 1980, though still passionate about psychiatry, the early constraints of managed health care began to alter hospital nursing as she knew it. Disappointed but determined, she went in search of "other ways to be a nurse." Debi found this niche at Come To Your Senses, a Twin Cities health and wellness store. For the next 10 years she focused on expanding the product lines of relaxation music, bodywork, cruelty-free cosmetics and alternative health books, as well as teaching in the medical community
In 1996 Debi received her BA in Ethics & Philosophy at St. Catherine's University, St. Paul, Mn.
She earned her Master's degree in Oriental Medicine in 2001 from the Minnesota College of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine. She is nationally certified to practice Chinese Medicine (NCCAOM--Dipl.Ac.) and is licensed by both the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice (LAc.) and the Wisconsin Dept. of Regulations. (LAc.).
Debi is a certified lifestyle healthcare provider and educator for Metagenic’s FirstLine Therapy™ and Dr. Diana Schwarzbein’s Principal Program.™ From this post-graduate education and 40+ years of nutrition study, Debi developed the Ideal Weight & Lifestyle program. Additionally, since 2005 Debi has studied Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) with Dr. Carolyn McMakin and Dr. Darren Starwynn. This has led to her unique treatment style combining acupuncture and FSM, integrating the depth of western scientific research and the evidence-based clinical success of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Debi was an original member of the practitioner workgroup co-operating with HealthPartner's Medical Policy department in updating and enhancing that insurer's acupuncture policy. Since 2006 she has served on the Acupuncture Advisory Council for the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice. Debi is a member of the American Acupuncture Council.
